Sometimes a mistake becomes a great cake! Our Tommy Crumble Cakes were born from a crumbly batch of Tommy Cakes. We took the crumbly cakes, broke them down and added more oats, crushed shelled unsalted peanuts, corn meal and gelatin. After taking the reworked cakes out of our molds, we found that the Crumble Cakes were more dense than a typical Spicy Tommy Cake.
What did our “customers” think of this recipe?
Our backyard birds absolutely LOVED them and couldn’t get enough! This recipe seemed to be that middle ground between a Seed Cake and a Suet Cake, and since it had the same color and look as a Crumble Cake, the name stuck and a new product was born.
ATTRACTS: Pileated woodpeckers, northern flickers, red-breasted woodpeckers, downy woodpeckers, hairy woodpeckers, nuthatches, cardinals, blue jays, juncos, chickadees, starlings, brown thrashers, warblers, doves, red-winged blackbirds, rose-breasted grosbeaks and other birds. They absolutely love these delicious homemade cakes.
While squirrels and chipmunks also love Tommy Crumble Cakes, our spicy recipe discourages them from eating the cakes. That’s more seed for your birds! Please note: while mammals like squirrels and chipmunks do not like the capsaicin heat from pepper flakes and hot pepper sauce in our recipe, it DOES NOT hurt the birds. It is also our experience that some of our furry friends will try to eat this seed too.
INGREDIENTS: sunflower seed, high quality bird seed, crushed shelled unsalted peanuts, tree nuts, oats, raisins, craisins, dried fruit, pepper flakes, pepper sauce, gelatin, unsulphured molasses and potassium sorbate.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE: Open package, place the cake into the bird feeder, secure the cage, wash your hands, sit back and enjoy the birds!
STORAGE: Store Tommy Cakes products in a cool, dry place. Refrigerate or freeze for best results.
